Educational research from and in the university can be an effective mechanism for innovation in higher education and other educational levels. This paper analyzes a propaedeutic system designed and carried out by professors from the University Extension Office at the University of Havana, Cuba, and the Jean Piaget University (JPU) of Veracruz, Mexico, to improve the educational research projects presented by candidates for Doctoral Degree in Education at the JPU. The bilateral interuniversity cooperation framework in which the propaedeutic system took place is shown. Procedures, contents, immediate results, development possibilities, and some features of the propaedeutic system complexity are described as elements for an ethos.
