Moved by the objective of characterizing the integrative and active university formation, the present work exposes some theoretical elaborations about the academic category "formation" and the conception of integrative and active university formation. In the first case, it delimits, as its essence, the protagonism of the will of the one who is the object of the formative task and, in the second, it is reflected through its two basic characteristics: the integrative character of the formation and the active participation of the students in it. The first is based on the integrative understanding of the human being and is aimed at the formation of specialists who combine qualities that are often separated today; the second insists on the stimulation of students' independence and creativity to acquire knowledge and solve problems.
