ISSN 1561-3011.
Anti-HBs antibody was obtained starting from the development of ascites in BALB/CBJ mice. Two groups of 8-month-old BALB/CBJ animals transgenic to HBsAg on an ad libitum water and food regimen were used. A group was inoculated anti-HBs antibody with a dose that doubled its concentration of HBsAg, whereas the other group was inoculated saline solution. 7 innoculations were made by the caudal vein with an interval of 5 days between them. A week after the last inoculation, blood was extracted and the immunocomplexes circulating in plasma were determined. Euthanasia was practiced and the aortas were extracted. The formation of plaques of atheromas was proved in a macroscopic way by observation on the stereoscopico and, microscopically, by staining with haematoxylin-eosin. Based on these results, it was concluded that an atherosclerosis model was attained in BALB/CBJ mice transgenic to HBsAg by the formation of immunocomplexes in a passive way.
