HERNANDEZ GARCIGA, Francisco Felipe; SANCHEZ RICARDO, Líbia; PENA BORREGO, Maricel y PEREZ PENA, Kassin. Overall cardiovascular risk in adults from Consultation Office 18, Guanabo health care area, 2010-2011. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2012, vol.31, n.4, pp. 429-436. ISSN 0864-0300.
Objective: the purpose of the study was to determine overall cardiovascular risk in adult individuals from a consultation office in Guanabo health care area. Methods: a descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted of a sample of 180 persons, applying part of a survey approved by the Center for Atherosclerosis Research and Reference of Havana and using Gaziano's tables without laboratory tests to determine risk (for 5 years). Results: arterial hypertension is the most frequent factor, followed by smoking, diabetes mellitus and obesity. Individual overall cardiovascular risk was moderate, high and very high in 28 men, and 39 women were distributed over the same range. Conclusions: arterial hypertension and smoking continue to be common in our environment. Determination of individual overall cardiovascular risk should become an indispensable habitual practice in primary health care.
