Resumen

La economía y la Salud Pública en Cuba en la década de 1940. Rev Cubana Salud Pública [online]. 2000, vol.26, n.2, pp. 128-133. ISSN 1561-3127.

The economic situation that Cuba went through in the 40's, characterized by an increase in sugar production and export in the first half of the decade as a result of the great demand on this product caused by the Second World War is described. The end of this war led to a reduction in sugar exports resulting from post-war adjustments with the respective impact on the economic level of the Cuban population. Some of the public health works carried out under the governments at that time and the handling of the budgets by these presidents using funds that should be allocated to the improvement of the country's sanitary conditions are set forth. Some works and campaigns in favor of the people's health led by Dr Jose A. Presno Bastiony, Alfredo M. Antonetti and Manuel Ampudia, among others, are cited in the paper.
