Resumen

HARDY, Ellen  y  JIMENEZ, Ana Luisa. Masculinidad y Género. Rev Cubana Salud Pública [online]. 2001, vol.27, n.2, pp. 77-88. ISSN 1561-3127.

Sex, gender and masculinity are concepts that are frequently considered as synonyms. Masculinity of a new human being may be built even before pregnancy and continue to be built after birth. Gender relationships are the patterns of behaviour in which power and inequality favor man and leave woman out. The difference in power between gender is observed, for example, in the physical and mental deterioration of the woman resulting from domestic violence trauma. The price of masculinity is referred to the "need" of being subjected to violent situations that may result in premature death. To reach equality between gender, it is necessary to close the gap between male and female spaces. There is the need of a higher participation of woman in the social setting and a more equal involvement of man in the domestic setting

Palabras clave : MALE; FEMALE; INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS; GENDER IDENTITY; QUALITY OF LIFE.
