Resumen

SOSA ROSALES, Maritza de la Caridad et al. Feasibility of the human consumption salt fluoridation program in Cuba. Rev Cubana Salud Pública [online]. 2004, vol.30, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3127.

The feasibility analysis of human consumption salt fluoridation program as a peventive oral health strategy for the Cuban population on the basis of the experience of other countries and the recommendations of world health organizations. Cost-benefits of the implementation of this program after 5 and 10 years of being introduced are presented. Their values are 1 to 7 USD and 1 to 28 USD , with a reduction in dental caries incidence on the Cuban population under 15 years-old of 40 and 80% respectively. Also, the results of basal research works instructed by the Pan-American Health Organization and required for this type of measure are shown. They comprise determination of fluor ion concentration in drinking water supply sources in the country and the identification of the oral health status of the population according to the methodology of the World Health Organization., which in turn allow us to learn about those domestic communities that do not require to drink fluoridated salt since they already consume high or optimal volumes of water with this chemical element and to know the present situation of the oral health so as to be able to evaluate the impact of the program after five and ten years
