Resumen

ARTILES SANTANA, Alina et al. Abdominal adiposity determined by ultrasonography and anthropometry in adolescent and adult pregnant women. Medicentro Electrónica [online]. 2020, vol.24, n.1, pp. 19-35. ISSN 1029-3043.

Introduction:

the predominance of adiposity in the central region of the body has been identified as the greatest risk to the health of pregnant women.

Objective:

to determine the correlation of ultrasonographic measurements of abdominal adiposity with the anthropometric indicators of general and central adiposity in adolescent and adult pregnant women.

Methods:

an analytical and prospective study was conducted at "Chiqui Gómez Lubián" University Polyclinic in Santa Clara, from October 2013 to November 2015. The population consisted of 443 healthy and nulliparous pregnant women. A total sample of 288 pregnant women, between 20 and 35 years of age, and 117 under 20 years of age were obtained after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Primary anthropometric measurements and ultrasonography were performed.

Results:

significant differences were identified between the correlations of the components of the abdominal adiposity and the anthropometric indicators of general and central adiposity in the pregnant women studied.

Conclusions:

there are evident correlations between abdominal fat and the anthropometric indicators of general and central adiposity of adolescent and adult pregnant women studied.

Palabras clave : adiposity; anthropometry; pregnancy.
