SUAREZ GONZALEZ, Juan Antonio  y  GUTIERREZ MACHADO, Mario. Some anthropometric variables as a cardiometabolic risk factor in middle-aged women. Medicentro Electrónica [online]. 2021, vol.25, n.2, pp. 165-177.  Epub 01-Abr-2021. ISSN 1029-3043.

Introduction:

adipose tissue has metabolic, endocrine and regulatory functions, both at a systemic and local level. Body composition analysis is an important element to assess cardiometabolic risk approach in middle-aged women.

Objective:

to characterize cardiometabolic risk in middle-aged women with a history of preeclampsia / eclampsia.

Methods:

a descriptive, cross-sectional and cohort study with elements of a qualitative and quantitative approach was carried out; patients with a history of risk of preeclampsia / eclampsia treated at “Mariana Grajales” Gynecology and Obstetrics University Hospital from January 2007 to June 2017 were the units of analysis. The sample consisted of 76 middle- aged patients from Santa Clara municipality, who expressed their agreement to participate in the research.

Results:

we found that 61.8% were hypertensive and 75% were obese from the total of 76 women studied. Fifty-three (69.7%) had preeclampsia from all the women surveyed with a history of risk of preeclampsia / eclampsia. The group of women with an abdominal circumference greater than or equal to 88 cm had a strong association with risk factors, especially with obesity (80.2%), history of preeclampsia (74.6%) and arterial hypertension (21.1%).

Conclusions:

cardiometabolic risk factors such as obesity, arterial hypertension, abdominal circumference greater than 88 cm, and history of preeclampsia were found in middle-aged women. These factors are not exclusive, and their combination was frequent in this group of women.
