Resumen

DAVILA CABO DE VILLA, Evangelina  y  LEYVA CABEZAS, Bárbara. Acute Post-operative Pain in Elderly Patients. Medisur [online]. 2013, vol.11, n.4, pp. 443-449. ISSN 1727-897X.

Maintaining the body homeostasis during both surgical procedure and post-operative period is among the anaesthesiologist’s main goals. There is considerable evidence on the postoperative morbidity resulting from metabolic alterations caused by pain, including prolongation of recovery time, rehabilitation and return of patients to their daily activities. Post-operative pain, known as the fifth vital sign, is generally severe and disabling. In addition, it is undervalued and inadequately treated as it is influenced by several factors such as: difficulty in valuing it and fear to medications (most frequent cause of adverse effects and interactions), which is more complicated in the elderly. This review aims at addressing this problem in such patients.

Palabras clave : acute pain; pain, postoperative.
