Orthodontics is the most specialized part of dentistry and certainly the most complex. It is responsible for the supervision, care and correction of dentofacial structures including those conditions that require dental movement or the correction of related bone malformations. Considering the specialty importance in correcting dentomaxillofacial anomalies and its application in malocclusion treatment in Primary Health caring and in the secondary level, it was considered necessary to know about this specialty for professional performance. Therefore, the objective of this work is to go deeper into orthodontics historical evolution in its different stages as well as to identify the outstanding personalities in its development in the Cienfuegos province, with an emphasis on human resources training and within the scientific and research framework. It may be useful for the knowledge transmission about the specialty to students who will perform as general basic dentists, orthodontic specialists and general comprehensive dentistry.
