Introduction:
The social determinants of health contribute to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of promotional preventive programs and reduce the risks faced by the general population.
Objective:
To describe the determinants of health in children under 5 years old of the Nueva Esperanza Human Settlement Sector X- Piura, 2018.
Material and Methods:
Descriptive, quantitative research, one-box design. Data collection instrument: questionnaire applied to a sample of 183 people.
Results:
The 59 % of children are female with ages 1-4 years; 60,1 % of mothers have complete / incomplete secondary education; 37,7 % earn less than 750 soles; 57,4 % have casual employments; most of them have their own houses with domestic water supply, tile and cement floors and their own bathrooms; they attend to a healthcare center; they take a daily bath, have complete vaccination cards and more than half of them sleep 8-10 hours. Most families do not receive organized support.
Conclusions:
It is concluded that the mothers’ educational levels are limited and the socioeconomic level of families is low. In addition, they receive natural support from family members all of which is related to their idiosyncrasies; therefore, they do not participate in social programs. All this influences children´s health and lifestyles.
