Training is a process whose purpose is to prepare people in all aspects of their personality, it is the process by which these people acquire skills that allow them to perform in any field. That is, it is a process that prepares people in an integral way to fulfill their functions successfully. These new challenges in university management require managers to assimilate best management practices, which include assuming the strategies of the business world adjusted to the academic environment, without neglecting the mission of higher education institutions. The competences that higher education managers must have presuppose important transformations in their training process. In addition, it is stressed that it is necessary to define the functions to be performed by the different managers of higher education and based on that to determine the real training needs to fulfill the functions and responsibilities they assume. Staff training and development should be included as a mandatory requirement for managerial positions in universities.
