In the process of teaching learning of social studies, theory and practice must be undeniably articulated it, that is how a scientific process is consolidated, after of the study of diverse issues from a determinate place; in that sense, local studies constitute the scientific activity that from schools can contribute to such process, where the student enhance research skills that conduct to the student´s integration from different fields allowing in a direct way the exploration of social phenomena, geographic, economic, religious and nature. The study of the locality it is a field that has been explored in many countries in the world, but in Colombia it has not been explored from schools as a generating activity of new research experiences in the student. That is why this article has as a goal show the importance of local studies in the process of teaching learning in social studies.
