Resumen

Various textual distortions derived from an inappropriate application of the APA bibliographic style are described and criticized, apparently caused by not going to the original English Publication Manuals or to complete and professional translations, which frequently induces rigid and irrelevant attitudes. In relation to the peculiarities of the Hispanic American culture and the language that serves as a vehicle of communication. It is exemplified with typical cases, observed for about twenty years, which allowed us to arrive at different criteria, in an order of ascending complexity of the academic discourse that goes from the lexical and orthographic aspects to the syntactic ones. Finally, the importance of language culture as an essential component of researcher training is highlighted.
