The quality of medical care has human communication as a central theme, but if this communication is poor, the possibility of conflict will increase. It has been shown that in the majority of cases the problems are not due to a bad professional technical performance, but to a failure in the communication process between doctor and patient. The present work proposes an analysis of communication between patient and doctor from a linguistic point of view, based on the idea that such communication has its own characteristics that should be taken into account in the discursive and communicative strategies that the doctor develops to achieve successful communication.
