Resumen

GAUCHI RISSO, Verónica. About the nature of research in library and information sciences during the period between 1970 and 2000. Rev. cuba. inf. cienc. salud [online]. 2016, vol.27, n.1, pp. 100-117. ISSN 2307-2113.

The article deals with the characteristics of research in library and information sciences during the period between 1970 and 2000. A type of descriptive research was proposed, so the work was developed under the objectives. The most representative characteristics of research are to be illustrated in the field of library and information sciences and an analytical framework that serves to understand the features of the research is to be established. Historical sources were reviewed as selective bibliography on LISA and SSCI databases, where articles were chosen if they tackled the propped categories. Also, principles of discourse analysis were used, for which categories of analysis were established, such as: research type, scientific explanation and methods applied. After analyzing the published bibliography, the carrying out of research in library and information sciences was seen to start in the fifties and become stronger in the eighties. Anglo-Saxon countries were in the forefront of research in the discipline. Throughout the time, the hegemony of survey and historical/biographical methods were being changed for a wide range of methods. As concluded, research in library and information sciences during the period analyzed has developed strongly, which manifested in the growth and diversity of the methods, the techniques for collecting data, and the jointly application of methods.
