The experience of a program designed to strengthen self-regulation skills in a group of first-time university students is presented, in order to facilitate the transition from traditional education to virtual and distance education. The program was carried out in different phases through a process of virtual meetings, in which the proposed sessions were developed, taking advantage of information and communication technologies. A pre and post process is performed and the analysis of the results shows a significant improvement in self-efficacy, self-regulation shows a descriptive but not statistically significant improvement. It is concluded that it is important to incorporate self-regulatory capacity promotion strategies into the study plans of higher education students, with greater relevance to those who choose or require the use of virtual and distance methodologies.
