MARTINEZ CABRERA, Jesús; ACOSTA MOYA, Esther; POMIER SUAREZ, Olga y MARTINEZ CABRERA, Norma. Errores más frecuentes en la atención al paciente intoxicado. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 1998, vol.14, n.1, pp. 48-57. ISSN 1561-3038.
The creation of the main urgency polyclinics is a challenge for physicians at the primary health care level due to their deficient training in toxicology. This paper is aimed at improving the attention given to the poisoned patient, starting from the analysis of the most frequent mistakes made when they are seen by the physician. The main mistakes made in the clinical diagnosis and in the indications of the toxicological studies are discussed. The contraindications, secondary effects and complications of vomit and gastric lavage are mentioned. Emphasis is made on the inappropiated use of parenteral solutions and diuretics. It is presented a list of the main antidotes that be used in toxicological urgencies
