A descriptive study of patients who suffered from acute myocardial infarction at the health area of the "Nguyen Van Troi" Community Teaching Polyclinic, and who received medical attention al the "Freyre de Andrade" Hospital, was conducted to know some risk factors favoring its appearance and its differences according to sex. It was observed that the male sex was more affected than the female sex in a ratio 2:1 among patients aged 70 and over. 80.95 % of them were sedentary, 76,19 % had hypercholesterolemia, 66,6 % were hypertensive, and 52,38 % were smokers. It was demonstrated that women were more affected with diabetes mellitus (29,76 %), and that there were more widows than married men. 21,43 % of women didnt finish the primary education. 50 % of the men had more than 3 risk factors
