GONZALEZ GONZALEZ, Lidia Margarita et al. Myocardial infarction and lipid metabolism. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2003, vol.19, n.6, pp. 1-1. ISSN 1561-3038.
75 patients of both sexes that were admitted in the Intensive Care Unit with the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction and that underwent lipid metabolism studies, were studied. Of them, 47 were males, (62.6 %), and 28 were females (37.3 %). Average age was 60 years old. The main personal pathological antecedents were smoking and arterial hypertension. No pathological antecedents of diabetes mellitus were found in the medical history of 6 patients, but other risk factors such as sedentarism, bad diet habtis, stress, etc., were observed. As a result, it was found that 52 patients (69.3 %) had lipid alterations (19 corresponded to cholesterol and 33 to triglycerides) with 13.3 % of coincidences in the increase of both. The lipid increase was observed at an average age of 58 years old.
