The conference is one in the basic organizational ways in the higher Cuban medical education; the objective of this work is to analyze some essential elements to develop a conference with appropriate pedagogical level, regarding its formal, methodological, educational and scientific-technicians aspects with emphasis in the role of the didactic principles which in the authors' opinion its appropriate use is indispensable for the development of a high quality of teaching-learning process and for which the method of documental review of national and foreign publications in Spanish carried out in the present century on the topic was used by means of digital thematic search. It could be concluded that the conference constitutes one of the most complex educational activities to be faced by a professor during the development of the pedagogical process, in which its basic components: objective, content, method, means, organizational form and evaluation are related and it becomes evident the imperious necessity of applying the didactic principles in order to reach the proposed objectives as well as to achieve the linking of the formative process with the social object of the profession.
