ABSTRACT Pregnancy is considered a risk situation in patients with rheumatic diseases. The relationship between pregnancy and systemic lupus erythematosus is characterized by an exacerbation of the disease activity and by possible effects on the final product. Neural tube development disorders are the second largest group of congenital malformations, with myelomeningocele being one of the most frequent malformations. We present the case of a newborn with a myelomeningocele, the son of a 27-year-old female patient with a diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus of 4 years of evolution
