FREIRE-GONZALEZ, Rosa A y VISTEL-VIGO, Marlén. Phytochemical characterization of Curcuma longa L. Rev Cub Quim [online]. 2015, vol.27, n.1, pp. 9-18. ISSN 2224-5421.
The spread of ose of Curcuma longa L., belonging to the Zingiberaceae family, in many localities of the municipality of Santiago de Cuba, comes from the French colonies, although it is unknown, in general, for our population, despite the fact that it is massively used as a food colorant and as a supplement or herbal for its benefits in the prevention of various degenerative diseases, premature aging and cancer. For these reasons, one chemotaxonomic characterization of rhizome powder is performed using thin layer chromatographic methods and some reference solutions, in order to identify some secondary metabolites present therein and corroborate the variety in question. At the same time, it contributes to the study of this valuable plant, which favors their employment with the undoubted benefits that this brings for the health of our people.
