BRITO MORENO, Raulnier et al. Incidence of Chrysomphalus aonidum L. (Hemiptera: Diaspididae) in orchids grown in the Botanical Garden Orquideario Soroa. Rev cubana ciencias forestales [online]. 2018, vol.6, n.2, pp. 195-203. ISSN 2310-3469.
The afectations of phytophagous insects in orchids constitute a serious menace above all because damage your health and your ornamental value. The research was carried out in the Botanical Garden «Orquideario Soroa» of Candelaria municipality in Artemisa province, with the objective of evaluating the incidence of Chrysomphalus aonidum L. (Florida red scale) in three orchids genera (Cattleya, Encyclia and Tricocentrum) and two cultivation environments (exteriors and umbras). Random stratified samples were taken for the sampling of plant material, selecting two umbras and five external points where the genera under study were represented. The processing of the samples was carried out in the Entomology Laboratory of the University of Pinar del Río. The results showed that the three genera of orchids studied are affected by C. aonidum, with significantly higher populations in Cattleya and Encyclia. It was also found that the population of C. aonidum, in outdoor environments, exceeds more than 2.5 times that of the umbras, regardless of the part of the leaf evaluated.
