ACOSTA DIAZ, Ramón; ARRONTE MILLO, Juliana y CABRERA DOMINGUEZ, Noemí. Evaluación del Surfacén en el síndrome de dificultad respiratoria del prematuro. Rev Cubana Pediatr [online]. 2000, vol.72, n.4, pp. 287-294. ISSN 1561-3119.
48 children with gestational age under 34 weeks and less than 2000g of weight that were born at "Justo Legón Padilla" Provincial Gynecoobstetric Teaching Hospital, in Pinar del Río, between January, 1997, and December, 1999, were studied in order to evaluate the efficiency of the use of "Surfacén", a Cuban exogenous surfactant, in the respiratory distress syndrome of premature infants. The data were entered in the database for their statistical processing. The chi square test and the test of comparison of means, both with a level of significance of 5%, were applied. "Surfacén" was administered to 24 children (study group) and it was not used in other 24 (control group). An improvement was observed in the oxygenation of the hyaline membrane disease, but there were no statistically significant differences as regards mortality and complications, maybe due to the fact that the children of the study group were more inmature and had a lower weight than the controls.
