LUGONES BOTELL, Miguel; VALDES DOMINGUEZ, Saylí  y  PEREZ PINERO, Julia. Characterization of the woman in the climateric stage (II). Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2001, vol.27, n.1, pp. 22-27. ISSN 1561-3062.

A cross-sectional descriptive study of the whole female population aged 40-59 years cared for by doctor´s office # 16 of "Jorge Ruíz Ramírez" polyclinics in Playa municipality was conducted, taking the family medical history classification record of the doctor's office as a basis. These patients were applied a questionnaire to find out some aspects of the climateric and menopause process such as: psychic and clinical symptoms, occurrence of chronic diseases and epidemiological factors related to them as well as the main gynecological manifestations. The patients were divided into perimenopausal and postmenopausal for their study. Chi square, Fisher test and Z test were used as statistical methods for comparing ratios. It is concluded that there was a significant incidence of psychic symptoms predominantly in postmenopausal females, with anxiety, depression and irritability as the most frequent ones. Also, headache and joint pains were the most prevailing clinical symptoms in postmenopausal women. Blood hypertension predominated in both groups, associated with obesity and smoking that were the fundamental risk factors.

Palabras clave : CLIMATERIC [psychology]; MENOPAUSE [psychology]; FAMILY PRACTICE; COMMUNITY MEDICINE, SOCIAL; RISK FACTORS; DISORDERS, PSYCHOTIC.
