Resumen

CASAGRANDI CASANOVA, Davide; SANABRIA ARIAS, Ana Mary; CABRERA RODE, Eduardo  y  PEREZ PINERO, Julia. Islet cell antibodies in gestational diabetes women: maternal events and neonatal complications. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2001, vol.27, n.1, pp. 46-52. ISSN 1561-3062.

In the last few years, a number of research studies have shown the presence of islet cell antibodies in patients with gestational diabetes. With the objective of identifying the possible relationship between the presence of ICA in pregnancy and the gestational diabetes risks, use of insulin and some puerperal and neonatal complications, a retrospective study of 58 patients with gestational diabetes was conducted. These patients were determined the presence of ICA immediately after the diagnosis. Variables such as presence of ICA, presence of gestational diabetes risk factors, use of insulin during pregnancy and occurrence of puerperal and neonatal complications were studied in every patient. ICA was positive in 9 patients (15.5%). Among the gestational diabetes risk factors, the association with the fetal macrosomia antecedent (p=6.874 x 103) was statistically significant whereas it was not significant with the other factors. Insulin was more frequently used in patients with positive ICA who also had more frequent puerperal and neonatal complications, even if differences were not statistically significant. It is concluded that the history of macrosomic child is statistically associated with the ICA presence in pregnancy; however, further studies with larger samples are required to detect other possible relations.
