Resumen

BALESTENA SANCHEZ, Jorge M.; SUAREZ BLANCO, Ciro; VILLARREAL SUAREZ, Alejandro  y  BALESTENA SANCHEZ, Sonia. Influence of some contraceptives on female sexuality. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2001, vol.27, n.3, pp. 184-190. ISSN 1561-3062.

A research work involving 623 women was carried out in “Hermanos Cruz” polyclinics from January to July 1999 with a view to identifying the sexuality in women who use different contraceptive methods. Those women who had been surgically sterilized were excluded. Statistical methods such as the percentage, the mean, the median, the standard bias and the chi-square test were used. Most of the women stated that they usually have sex three times per week; as to the general question about sex, the weekly mean was higher in women using contraceptive pills but the monthly mean was higher in those using intrauterine devices. Another question was how many times they had had sex the week before and the majority answered that only once. The average sexual intercourse based on this question was similar in all the groups, but the monthly mean was higher in women who used condon. Sex desire and satisfaction were present in all the women who use contraceptive methods; however, the women who used condon said that the frequency of both had lowered. It is concluded that the contraception does not affect female sexuality.
