Intensive therapy plays a determining role in the reduction of maternal mortality. That's why, important aspects of hypertension in pregnancy that have a high incidence on morbidity and maternal mortality are updated, mainly what is related to severe preeclampsia/eclampsia, making emphasis on those aspects connected with the severe patient care in this type of unit and the drugs most frequently used. Clinical aspects of the disease are also dealt with. The appearance of the intensive care units for the critical patient care has allowed to reduce mortality and complications by the invasive or noninvasive monitoring and the use of modern diagnostic and therapeutic techniques in these units.
