Resumen

RODRIGUEZ NUNEZ, Ana Caridad  y  FELIPE RODRIGUEZ , Omar. Bronchial asthma: Maternal, fetal and neonatal repercussion. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2006, vol.32, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3062.

In order to identify the repercussion of bronchial asthma on pregnant women and the product of conception, a longitudinal, prospective and analytical study of all the asthmatic pregnant women that visited the high risk department of the service of Obstetrics and Gynecology of “Comandante Pinares” General Teaching Hospital, in the municipality of San Cristóbal, from January 2000 to December 2002, was conducted. The study group was composed of 182 patients and it was compared with the control group in a simple randomized way. Both groups filled out a questionnaire that included variables of the mother, the birth, the newborn and the puerperium. The statistical analysis was made by using the Microstat program. The chi square test was applied for the contingency tables, with a significance level of p < 0.05. Most of the patients with severe bronchial asthma did not have intercrisis treatment before pregnancy, which proved to be highly significant (p = 9,801E-03) and showed the largest number of diseases characteristic of pregnancy with a high statistical significance (P = 3,733 e-05). Of them, the most frequent were retarded intrauterine growth, arterial hypertension induced by gestation and oligohydramnios. The incidence of preterm delivery was remarkable (p = 0.0488). There was a marked association among low Apgar, maternal morbimortality and neonatal mortality in asthmatic expectants. It was confirmed that bronchial asthma is a risk factor for pregnancy.
