Introduction:
Blended learning is a mixed model of face-to-face / distance training of increasing application in university institutions.
Objective:
To evaluate the results of the application of the mixed model of face-to-face / distance learning in the Basic Pedagogy course for Higher Education at the Hermanos Ameijeiras postgraduate faculties.
Methods:
A documentary analysis of the registration, attendance and evaluation records was carried out of the first six editions of the course aimed at instructors and assistants. A survey was applied in the last meeting of each edition, which explored the criteria recommended by the methodological manual of the Virtual Health University for assessing teaching activities. The results of the applied De Bono technique were also summarized. The results were expressed in measures of central tendency and percentage.
Results:
A total of 156 student-teachers enrolled, of which 124 graduated. Finally, 120 responded to the evaluation survey (97%). The evaluated criteria were rated as excellent by most of the respondents: quality of the faculty (82%), quality of the contents (97%), quality of the educational design (94%), quality of the tutors’ preparation (96%), as well as the satisfaction of the graduates (97%). There were only unfavorable criteria to assess the technological and infrastructure conditions. The dropout rate decreased in successive editions until it was less than 10% and the assessments of the results were excellent, except in the first edition.
Conclusions:
The experience of applying blended learning was promising despite the existing difficulties.
