ARIAS-LAFARGUE, Telvia; RODRIGUEZ HEREDIA, Dunia y CORDOVA RODRIGUEZ, Valduvina. Santiago of Cuba bay. Contamination in their coast east. riha [online]. 2021, vol.42, suppl.1, pp. 64-78. Epub 01-Dic-2021. ISSN 2788-6050.
The Santiago de Cuba´s bay is considered the second most polluted in the country. In 2020, due to Covid-19, the productivity of the industries that surround it, and the maritime port traffic decreased considerably. The objective of the work is to analyze the behavior of some pollution indicators on its east coast. The following were determined as indicative parameters of contamination: heavy metals, pH, nitrite, nitrate, ammonium, phosphate, biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, dissolved oxygen, suspended solids and turbidity. Suspended solids and dissolved oxygen are shown to have values above Cuban standards at the entrance to the Bay. It is concluded that the quality of the waters of the studied area does not meet the requirements as a bathing or fishing area according to current regulations.
