The teacher is a fundamental element for the social development of any country. In order to analyze the characteristics of the teacher training process for basic education, a descriptive study of a bibliographic review type was carried out with a historical-hermeneutical approach. There is evidence of the need to improve the curricula of pedagogical careers and in particular the pre-professional stage of the training process; where social needs, the characteristics of the educational system and innovative approaches to teaching are taken into account; as well as the experiences obtained in the formative stage of the pre-professional practice.
Palabras clave : Teacher training; pre-professional practice; skills; basic education.
