GATO DEL MONTE, Armando et al. Development of a drug for treating arterial hypotension and cataract surgery. Rev Cubana Farm [online]. 2004, vol.38, n.3, pp. 1-1. ISSN 1561-2988.
A phenylephrine hydrochloride injectable solution was developed to treat arterial hypotension and eye surgery. To this end, 3 formulations were designed and studied. The most feasible to continue the study was selected. The stability assay of the product at different temperatures during 222 days and in shelf for 24 months were carried out by applying the high resolution liquid chromatography analysis. The formulation obtained was compared with a commercial product from the pharmacological and toxicological point of view. The results showed that the formulation developed fulfilled the stability trials and has a pharmacological potency in relation to the commercial of 113 %. There were no differences between the activity of the compared products. The commercial product proved to be more toxic than the formulation developed on having higher LD50. The product obtained with the technological development used complied with the quality specifications of the USP 26.
