In Cuba, since the beginning of the present century, the newborn infants started to be ventilated by a method of respiratory assistance called high frequency ventilation, which is still relatively new. The main objective of this review is to determine its indications and contraindications, to explain how to use it and to make reference to some of its complications. High frequency ventilation is a very useful alternative strategy in neonatal respiratory assistance.
