Resumen

SOSA, Dayana et al. DERMAL IRRITATION OF HYDROGEL MEMBRANES IN RABBITS. Rev Salud Anim. [online]. 2010, vol.32, n.1, pp. 32-36. ISSN 0253-570X.

The aim of this study was to determine the irritant potential of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) hydrogels membranes (MH). This evaluation was developed using the methodology described in ISO 10993-Part 10, 2003. Albino rabbits of the race New Zealand were used, weighting between 2.4-2.5 kg, to which hydrogels samples 2.5x2.5 cm of thick were applied. The presence of irritation signs at 1, 24, 48 and 72 hours were not observed being the Primary Irritation Index (PII) of zero, ranking the HM as a substance without a significant irritant potential. Additionally, the effect of membrane exposition during 24 hours was verified and the presence of a mild erythema disappearing at 72 hours was observed.

Palabras clave : hydrogel membranes; rabbits; dermal irritation; PVP; gamma irradiation.
