The present work performs a brief historical description of the foreign languages teaching, and, in particular, the English language as from the emergence of the grammar method, up to the application of the communicative approach. Several antecedents are also presented in terms of the foreign languages teaching since the University Reform, the importance of the implementation of the Main Program for Foreign Languages in Cuban universities, and the behavior of English teaching as a foreign language in the Cuban medical university.
