The Montevideo Group Association of Universities (AUGM, according to its acronym in Spanish) brings together all major public, autonomous and self-governing higher education institutions in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Since its foundation in 1991, it has been continuously growing, becoming a major actor in policies on higher education in the region. By means of its programs, it allows students and professors to go on exchanges, fosters scientific cooperation, and promotes political and academic debate of regional problems. The great commitment taken on by its member universities, the wide variety of programs it offers, and its constant concern for the needs of society into which it is placed, are among the factors that allowed AUGM to get stronger, and play an important role region- and worldwide at present. It has also dealt with improving cooperation processes which are essential for academic networks to achieve their goals.
