Resumen
HERRERA BATISTA, Aleida et al. Perfil lipídico en el suero de conejos tratados con etanol y dieta hipercolesterolémica. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2003, vol.22, n.2, pp. 123-129. ISSN 1561-3011.
The purpose of this paper was to determine the possible variations of the lipid profile of serum brought about by the ingestion of ethanol and of a hypercholesterolemic diet. 22 male rabbits aged 100 days were used. They were divided into 4 groups: the first was treated with alcohol, the second with a high-cholesterol diet, the third with alcohol and a high-cholesterol diet and the fourth was a control group. The experiment lasted 16 weeks All the rabbits underwent lipidograms. The following variables were analyzed: total cholesterol, triacilglycerides, high density lipoproteins, low density lipoproteins, and very low density lipoproteins. It was proved that the chronic ingestion of alcohol increased total cholesterol and high density lipoproteins, and reduced triacilglycerides and very low density lipoproteins. Those animals treated with a high-cholesterol diet and with diet and alcohol showed elevated values of total cholesterol, low density lipoproteins, triacilglycerides and very low density lipoproteins. According to the results, it was concluded that alcohol does not offer antiatherogenic protection, at least at the doses used in this study.
