A cross-sectional descriptive study was made in whcih the presence of risk factors in atherosclerosis in a population aged over 20 years from the doctor´s office no. 6 in Plaza de la Revolution municipality from 2001 to 2002. Data was collected through medical surveys and revision of individual and family clinical histories. Each risk factor was given a value in line with its intensity, being the resulting value the addition of all the risk factors. Data about the variables under study were processed by SPSS system PT-06 by which the statistical analysis was made and later summarized in tables. Almost one third of population is in the over 60 years-old group, being females the predominant group, and the most frequent risk factors were lack of exercising, blood hypertension and smoking, all related to age but not to sex.
