The results of the work carried out for a company that provides maintenance services to emergency power suppliers owned by its customers, are presented in this article. Applying techniques such as observation, document review, interview, brainstorming, cause-effect diagram, relationship diagram and Inograf, it was possible to identify a large group of causal factors that impact negatively the maintenance management of this equipment, proposing actions to overcome the current situation. The diversity of brands, complexities and operational contexts of the assets, the inability to establish and recognize functional failures and their failure modes, as well as the lack of supervision and control mechanisms, were identified as the most important causes.
