Resumen

MARTIN, Frank Felipe et al. Sepsis relacionada con cateterismo Centrovenoso percutáneo. Rev Cubana Pediatr [online]. 1999, vol.71, n.1, pp. 33-38. ISSN 1561-3119.

A study of 210 patients admitted at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in a period of 2 years was conducted. These children had undergone central venous percutaneous catheterization and had developed sepsis related to chatheter and/or colonization. 24 of them suffered from sepsis, which represented 7,5 % of the catheterized patients. The systemic sepsis predominated in the study. All patients had clinical manifestations. The longest permanence of the catheter was associated with an increase of sepsis. The gramnegative were the predominating germs. The catheter was colonized in 20 % of the patients. The grampositive were the most frequently isolated bacteria.

Palabras clave : : INTENSIVE CARE UNITS, PEDIATRIC; CATHETERIZATION, CENTRAL VENOUS [adverse effects]; SEPSIS [complications].
