An updated bibliographic review is presented on the history of pediatric cardiovascular anesthesia at the international level and the development attained in our setting, where it is evidenced that the Cuban anesthesiologists have faced during the last two decades the challenge of introducing into our environment the modern anesthetic and postoperative management techniques allowing surgeons to perform complex surgical techniques that are continously applied in our country for treating congenital heart diseases.
