A prospective research was made among 150 pregnant women with associated cardiovascular diseases of a total 1 665 patients that gave birth from January to December, 1997, at the General Teaching Hospital of Baracoa, which accounted for 9.0 % of all the admissions. Indicators such as age showed a mode of 24-27 years old with a mean of 26. There was a higher incidence among primiparous women than in those with other type parity. Chronic arterial hypertension, mitral stenosis and interauricular communication were the prevailing heart diseases in this group of expectants. Full-term newborns and those with normal weight predominated in the studied heart diseases. There was neither perinatal nor maternal mortality during the analyzed period.
