RUBIO RODRIGUEZ, Madeline  y  ARANDA CARRION, Mabis. Logros del hogar materno en la recuperación de peso de las gestantes. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 2000, vol.16, n.2, pp. 73-77. ISSN 1561-2961.

A descriptive and retrospective study of 65 pregnant women admitted in the maternal home of Songo, Songo-La Maya municipality, province of Santiago de Cuba, to recover their body weight from January to September, l998, was conducted aimed at showing the results obtained. Expectants under 20 maintained a high incidence, whereas those with a weight between 40 and 49 kg on admission showed correspondance with the degree I, II, III and IV nutritional evaluation. The insufficient gain weight during pregnancy was significant. The weight gained by these patients during their stay at the maternal home ranged from 3 to 5 kg . A considerable number of expectants had haemoglobin figures below 11 g/L. General data were collected from the medical histories, including variables of interest such as age, weight on admission, nutritional assessment, weight gain during pregnancy, etc. The percent statistical method was used. The educational work was directed to prepare pregnant women to guarantee an efficient breast feeding, as well as to the psychoprophylactic preparation for delivery.

Palabras clave : WEIGHT GAIN; PREGNANCY; NUTRITION ASSESSMENT; GROUP HOMES.
