A comparative and retrospective study was conducted among 243 patients from the health area of "Armando García Aspurú" Polyclinic that had a suicidal behaviour from 1991 to 1996 in order to determine, among other variables of interest, the factors causing this behavior, the methods used to attempt suicide and the role of the nursing personnel in the modification of family and individual attitudes. It was found a predominance of suicidal ideas in females aged 15-29 with junior high school educational level and unemployed, due mainly to marriage and family conflicts that led them to choose in the first place the ingestion of psychopharmacological agents to attain their objective.
