Resumen

PORRA CASALS, Juana Mirtha; DIAZ VALLADARES, Ireida  y  CORDERO LOPEZ, Girelda. Conocimientos y aplicación de los principios éticos y bioéticos en el proceso de atención de enfermería. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 2001, vol.17, n.2, pp. 132-138. ISSN 1561-2961.

Independent actions in nursing are the ones that consolidate the scientific character of the profession, hence the need for a positive change in the professional performance of nurses that allow them to act professionally and scientifically. These are the reasons why the Process of Nursing Care(PNC) has been implemented in our hospitals. We determined the knowledge that the nursing staff has about ethical and bioethical principles and how they apply them. A descriptive study was undertaken on the knowledge of the nursing staff about ethical and bioethical principles and their application to the performance of their functions. For this, an evaluating questionnaire was designed to determine such knowledge. The implementation of these principles is measured by a problem question-structured interview. The most known principles were the respect to people, the professional secret and justice whereas the less known were charity and autonomy. The nurses who showed little knowledge in this regard were the ones form the basic nursing course, and at the same time they had received fewer courses on these subjects. The nurses with greater knowledge about this topic were the Bachelors of Nursing, who had participated more in ethics and bioethics courses. The principles were reasonably applied in spite of the fact that nurses do not have sound knowledge of all of them. By means of courses and other activities scheduled for this end, this nursing staff should be trained in these aspects so as to increase the quality of the health care.
