Resumen

MORALES PEREZ, Clara et al. Sensibilidad de los sistemas de vigilancia de las infecciones nosocomiales. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 2004, vol.20, n.2, pp. 1-1. ISSN 1561-2961.

The surveillance of nosocomial infections is a vital component for their prevention and control. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the sensitivity of the surveillance systems of the clinical and surgical hospitals in Havana. At first, the presence of nosocomial infection and the report by the system of surveillance and localization were registered among the variables of interest. The presence of infection was determined by an active screening of all the inpatients. In general, the sensitivity proved to be 34.48 %. The surveillance systems of the hospitals "Freire de Andrade", "Manuel Fajardo" and "Calixto García" showed the highest sensitivity (52.94 %, 43.75 % and 38.00 %, respectively). The capacity to detect respiratory nosocomial infections (63.63 %) and on the surgical site (48,00 %) was higher compared with other localizations. These results pose a problem that should be included in the priorities of hospital epidemiologists.

Palabras clave : NOSOCOMIAL INFECTION [prevalencia]; HOSPITALS; LOCALIZATION; RISK PROCEDURE.
