Children devote more time to watch television than to any other extraschool activity. Several publications show that television favors sedentarism and reduces the physical activity and the school work. This descriptive cross-sectional study inquires about the television habits of the school population in the city of Plasencia, Spain. The method of study was applied to 494 shcool children aged 10-14 by using questionnaries directed to children, parents and professors in order to get information about the television habits, physical exercise, sleeping, reading and school performance. The results showed that school children devote 6.5 hours a week to watch television, a time much higher than the recommended with detriment to physical activity, sleeping and study, and that parents allow their children to watch television alone without limiting the time or selecting the program.
